[ubuntu] Laptop keyboard MM key not working

I read on this forum to try KeyTouch in order to program a multimedia key/button but that resulted in nothing - that program seems to be useless on ubuntu 16.04.

So how do I do it? KeyTouch seems to recognize the key: I selected my keyboard then got into the interface and pressed "New" and then pressed the key I wanted and programmed it and then savd it - though no idea what file name extension that needs to be (KeyTouch documentations and manuals everywhere on the internet give zilch information about what the nature of the file is and how that is related to when and how it is activated). Thus after all that the end result is: nothing happens.

In Microsoft I used SharpKeys and that did all the work (recognized the key in one click an and programmed it with another (the desired function) with zero hiccups.
