OPenvpn client issues

Hi there

I am trying to configure OPenvpn on my Ubuntu 14.04 laptop following this guide:

I am connecting to an Ubuntu VPS with OpenVPN configured

For some reason though the client side isn't working. The tunnel inteface isn't being created

and there is no output to /var/log/syslog other than a systemd entry:

I tried increasing verbosity in /etc/oprnvpn/client.conf but still nothing.
