Ub 16.04 suspend wakeup problem

I'm using a desktop.

For several months, when I try to wakeup the machine from suspend, about 20 pct of the time I can't enter the password - the cursor doesn't blink, I tap keys, nothing gets entered in the box. I have to shut down power and bootup.

When I disable the pw requirement, it sometimes wakeups, goes to the right screen, but again I can't enter anything and have to shut down power and bootup.

A week ago, I did some things to get Hibernate working, and it does work - so far no problems like described above, but the hibernate process takes longer.

Does anybody have any ideas how to fix wakeup from suspend?
