I am running Ubuntu 16.04 on a Acer Aspire R5-471T with a Synaptics SynPS/2 touchpad. When I suspend and unsuspend, with some frequency the trackpad and keyboard are nonresponsive when I return. (This has happened the last few times, but in the past only intermittently. I am not sure what distinguishes the times this happens from the times it doesn't). The touchscreen and a mouse I plug in sometimes continue to work.
I have tried all the answers in this post
with the exception that in the packages named "utopic" I substituted in "xenial" (although "libegli-mesa-drivers-lts-xenial" could not be found). I have restarted a few times since taking these steps (indeed, had to, because I needed to use the keyboard).
What can I do to diagnose and fix this problem? The only step I know that brings back functionality at this time is a reboot.
