[kubuntu] Intel i965 flickering on Kubuntu 16.04

Hi, I just updated from Kubuntu 14.04 to 16.04. I have some intermittent screen flickering that I'm trying to track down. It's an Intel Ivy Bridge desktop.

Every so often, when I switch applications or move the cursor from one display to the other, one of the displays flickers briefly. (I have 2x LG 1920x1080 LCDs.) It doesn't happen every time, but I notice it most often when moving from one display to the other. Occasionally it happens when switching applications, etc. within one display. I can readily reproduce it by moving the cursor back and forth rapidly between the two displays.

When a display flickers, it either briefly turns black for ~1 frame, or the screen jumps ~15 pixels to the right for ~1 frame.

I searched around, but I couldn't find anything that seemed similar to my problem - there are plenty of "flickering issues" mentioning the i915 driver, but everything I found seemed too old or too different. None of the "Compositor" options in System Settings had any effect.

What other info would be helpful to troubleshoot this?
