clementine, bodhi, smb and symlinks

i've got clementine, im using some sort of bodhi linux, ive got a windows box sharing music, i can can use a file manager to see the music but vlc , clementine, etc can't see the music, or the shares, etc.

i need to know how to update clementine and create symlinks.

new to ubuntu is a bit of a streach having been sent a box of 100 copies of ubuntu 5.04 (a few ppc and x86_64)
as for being official flavour, LTS is all im going on

i asked over at the bodhi and clemetine forums and am hoping with the much more active community here i'll bump into a friendly guru sooner.
