14.04 Trusty cannot get Ralink RT3090 WiFi to work

mercredi 10 août 2016

Hi,

I have a laptop (MSI Cr620) that uses a Railink RT3090 device for the wifi.

As I was having problems with a previous version of Ubuntu, I decided to upgrade to 16.04 - but the install meant I could not install anything from the Software centre, nor using apt-get. I therefore installed 14.04, and had everything working except the wifi.

I have checked the forums, and not had any joy.

I have checked the Fn F10 to ensure I have wi-fi on, and I can see when it switches off, but I cannot detect any wireless networks. With the previous Ubuntu, I could. Therefore, I know this is a change from the install of Ubuntu.

I have done a sudo lspci -v and the relevant part is below:-

05:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. [MSI] Device 6891
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 19
Memory at f4000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 3
Capabilities: [50] MSI: Enable- Count=1/32 Maskable- 64bit+
Capabilities: [70] Express Endpoint, MSI 00
Capabilities: [100] Advanced Error Reporting
Capabilities: [140] Device Serial Number 00-00-86-f8-1b-6d-62-6c
Kernel driver in use: rt2800pci

I read that the driver may be incorrect, but I haven't found anything that works.

Any help would be most appreciated.
