[ubuntu] Unusual Network Behavior . . Wireless Network Requires Manual Start

mardi 16 août 2016

This AM . . . my wireless network dropped connections from 3 distinct PC's. Two Laptops, One Desktop, all running Ubuntu 16.04.1, all on Intel wireless. Have never had connection issues of any kind before this incident.

After much trial & error, I figured out how to add the wireless network "per session" . . using the "Connect to Hidden Wifi Network" option in the Network Manager app. In other words, unlike prior networking behavior, my wireless network is not automatically detected, and therefore no connection is made. So, each time I need to use that method (kinda clunky, and wife sure doesn't like).

I tried deleting the SSD's and then re-adding, to see if normal behavior is reestablished (automatic connection upon startup). No go on that.

Any ideas as to cause and fix? Was wondering (speculating) that perhaps firmware updates by my ISP (CenturyLink.net) to the Gateway device (modem/router) or even an update to the Network Manager App by Canonocal/Debian???

Note: my two wireless printers still connect to the network automatically, as do a Samsung Tablet and my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone. . . . ??

Thanks for any tips.

UPDATE: I'm thinking that in trying to get the wireless network reset, I may have unknowingly added my default wireless network as a "hidden" network" . . . now to try and figure out if there's an easy to to change that.
